Job Description

The Organized Crime Commission has been tasked by the Governor to assess and to evaluate current efforts by law enforcement throughout New Mexico to combat organized crime in the areas of Human Trafficking, Drug Trafficking, and Gun Smuggling. We will use our agents and analysts to lead efforts against criminal organizations throughout the state. The Organized Crime Commission is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is seeking applicants for a Special Prosecutor/ General Counsel in Albuquerque. Under the supervision of the Director and the Deputy Director, the Special Prosecutor must undertake special projects such as community education projects and law enforcement training and will also be responsible for assisting with investigations and giving legal advice for the preparation of prosecutions. Special prosecutors will be responsible for preparing and going to trial on organized criminal matters across the state and must be well-versed on the criminal law areas of racketeering and criminal asset forfeiture.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires comprehensive and current knowledge and skills in the areas of criminal prosecution, rules of evidence and rules of criminal procedure; public relations; organization and supervision; basic computer skills including working knowledge of office systems; fully effective trial skills; ability to draft legal documents; ability to work effectively with other criminal agencies; ability to communicate effectively; ability to research/analyze information and situations. Works independently with minimal consultation with supervisors (except for higher profile or complex cases).

Requirements: Licensed attorney to practice law in New Mexico, plus a minimum of five (5) years as a practicing attorney.

Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) to seven (7) years or more of relevant prosecution experience.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in the office and is typically an 8-5 Monday-Friday with some exceptions. Numerous training opportunities are available internally and externally.  Special Prosecutor may be asked to travel up to 20% of their schedule.

This is a grant funded position with a term of at least two (2) years. Employment is dependent upon funding.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
