The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office is seeking qualified Legal Assistant 1 candidates to join our dedicated team of legal professionals who play a vital role in upholding justice, supporting victims, and advancing public safety. As the entry point into the legal assistant series, Legal Assistant 1 is ideal for individuals with strong administrative skills who are ready to learn and grow in a legal environment. In this role, you’ll receive training and guidance to support attorneys, navigate legal systems, and manage critical documents and deadlines. We’re looking for candidates who are detail-oriented, organized, and eager to build a foundation for long-term success in public service. Our positions are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Ad-hoc or hybrid telework opportunities may be available.
Your daily essential job responsibilities includes but is not limited to the following:
Review case files for completeness and accuracy, ensuring all necessary documentation is present and correctly formatted.
Accurately enter felony and misdemeanor case information into legal and case management systems within required timelines.
Request and interpret criminal history reports from law enforcement databases to support case preparation.
Assist with victim notification processes by preparing and distributing case updates, court notices, and related communications in a professional and timely manner.
Investigate and prepare restitution requests under attorney guidance, gathering supporting documentation and summarizing findings.
Perform general administrative support duties such as file maintenance, document preparation, and data entry in support of legal teams.
Support office-wide projects and assignments that may require initiative, research, or the ability to follow instructions with attention to detail.
Most vacancies in the District Attorney's Office are full-time, however this list may be used to fill part-time, temporary, limited duration and on-call openings.
TO QUALIFY:

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:
Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.
Three years of general clerical experience.
One year of experience working within a district attorney, county counsel, or relevant legal office.
Basic working knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the criminal or judicial system, and some knowledge of legal terminology and legal databases.
Preferred Special Qualifications/Transferable Skills:
Bilingual highly preferred (will require a language proficiency exam)
Advanced knowledge of data systems such as RegJIN, LEDS, NCIC, Odyssey, PbK and Microsoft Word.
LEDS Certification, knowledge of and/or experience using legal terminology is highly desirable.

However, actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidate's relevant experience and education. Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.
