Job Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

The Counsel team is looking for a dynamic Program Manager, Legal Innovation to join our Legal Operations team. You will lead strategic AI and innovative projects end-to-end, driving rapid execution and enthusiastic cultural adoption. You'll solve complex problems with both strategic vision and hands-on tactics, while championing our success stories and fostering excitement for change across the organization, reporting into our Legal Operations Lead.

You Will

  • Convert ideas into executable plans—scoping, prioritizing, and launching AI/innovation initiatives that align with strategic legal goals with speed and purpose.
  • Remove blockers and escalate decisively to prioritize and keep deliverables on track.
  • Develop integrated project plans, timelines, and budgets; maintain governance artifacts (roadmaps, RACI matrices, risk registers, issue logs).
  • Manage scope throughout the project lifecycle through regular, concise executive briefings and dashboards that highlight progress, risks, and next steps.
  • Define and track metrics, quality and performance indicators, to help measure program progress and success.
  • Facilitate partnerships with attorneys, practice groups, and other partners to promote legal automation and AI adoption.
  • Develop and implement communication plans to promote project milestones, pilot results, and ROI outcomes through case studies, success stories, and "lunch and learn" sessions.
  • Evaluate new technologies by coordinating pilot programs and feasibility studies, capturing insights and scaling successful proofs of concept into production
  • Design and Implement change-management and training programs that increase adoption of new AI tools, automation workflows, and platforms.
  • Promote a culture of iterative enhancement, applying Lean Six Sigma, and Agile methodologies.
  • Help optimize innovation platforms, legal orchestration systems, and knowledge-management databases to enhance workflow efficiency.

You Have

  • Bachelor's degree; four to eight years' experience in the legal environment with direct knowledge of legal service workflows.
  • In-depth understanding of legal processes, workflows, and legal technology.
  • Experience analyzing data, developing use cases, and creating functional requirements for systems and tools.
  • Strong presentation skills to help advocate for our efforts internally and lead change and adoption.
  • Curiosity around AI and experience testing or using existing AI tools.
  • PMP, Agile or Six Sigma experience preferred.
