Position Overview:
We are seeking a Partner-Ready Litigation Attorney to join our West Des Moines office. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of tort and complex litigation experience, strong trial skills, and the ability to independently manage complex matters from start to finish. Prior law firm experience is strongly preferred. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior associate ready to take the next step or an early-stage partner seeking a new platform to grow their practice.
Our General Litigation Practice Group serves a broad client base, including Fortune 100 and 500 companies, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, municipalities, government entities, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, retailers, financial institutions, construction companies, real estate developers, and small to mid-sized businesses. This role offers the resources, reputation, and reach of a multi-office, nationally recognized law firm, while maintaining a collaborative and supportive environment.
Primary Job Requirements:
- Lead litigation matters from investigation through resolution, including trials, arbitrations, and appeals.
- Handle depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
- Develop case strategies in collaboration with clients and colleagues.
- Supervise and mentor associate attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants.
- Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on multi-disciplinary matters.
- Provide proactive and strategic legal counsel to clients, ensuring they are informed at every stage.
- Stay current on industry trends and legal developments affecting clients.
- Travel as needed for client meetings, depositions, and trials.
Key Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing in Iowa’s state and federal courts; admission in Wisconsin, Illinois, and/or Indiana is a plus.
- Minimum of five (5) years of tort and complex litigation experience, ideally including first-chair or significant trial/arbitration work.
- Strong legal writing, organization, and case management skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex cases from inception through resolution.
- Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and advanced document editing proficiency.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work accurately and efficiently, often under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed billable hours and revenue expectations.
- Consistent and reliable attendance.
- Portable book of business is a plus, but not required.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base Salary Range: $120,000 – $160,000
- Annual Bonus Opportunity
- Generous PTO
- Estimated Billable Target ~ 1,650 hours
