OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of a manager on the Global Team, the Lead Immigration Coordinator supports the Global Department with Global practice support and training, handling assigned casework, supervising and mentoring junior staff, improving operational practices, and any special projects assigned by the management.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership and Mentorship
    • Assist and/or lead projects relative to maintenance or improvement of Global practices or resources;
    • Provides guidance to junior staff through mentoring and advice on case strategy, client communications, immigration knowledge, and other relevant work; responsibilities; provides individuals information so that they can make accurate decisions;
    • Facilitate dissemination of best practices, consular updates, new team initiatives, and other relevant information/practices within the Global program;
  • Partake in projects and/or proactively seek out areas for improvement for the program, and provides advice/suggestions/solutions to appropriate channels, i.e. Knowledge Management, IT, Cobalt Support Team, Global Manager(s), etc.;
  • Assists in monitoring operations, work product, communications, and reporting to ensure quality standards are met per firm-wide expectations;
  • Take the lead on finding solutions to work-related issues including casework escalations; identifying what needs to be done and doing it before being asked or before the situation requires it; seeks out others involved in situation to learn perspectives and previous practice;
    • Provide input on personnel performance reviews;
    • Complete other related leadership and mentorship duties as assigned.
  • Practice Support
    • Create and/or maintain Global general resources including Standard Operating Procedures, guides, templates, universal tools and information;
    • Create and/or deliver assigned Global training sessions;
    • Prepare and/or analyze internal reports;
    • Provide assistance and guidance to Immigration teams for region-specific projects or requests including group projects, audits, bulk requests/edits, etc.;
    • Observe and work alongside junior staff to adhere to BAL policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the program’s streamlined practices are observed;
    • Assists in monitoring operations, work product, communications, and reporting to ensure quality standards are met per firm-wide expectations;
    • Complete other related practice support duties as assigned.
  • Casework Support
  • Support intake duties including initiation reviews, determining services and fees, completing assessments and assigning cases for team.
  • Maintain an active caseload, continue to uphold a high-level of client service standards, and ensure all necessary information is accurate in Cobalt; may be asked to focus on complex and difficult cases
  • Provide guidance and supervision to other colleagues as necessary on casework or at manager’s discretion
  • Assist with Immigration teams on any casework support at manager’s discretion
  • Complete other related practice support duties as assigned

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May support other Global staff or support other Global Immigration Teams at Manager’s discretion;
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  If currently in a BAL role:
    • On average, must have received performance reviews at the “Meets the BAL Standard” level in all areas of the firm’s Behavioral Competencies for the past two years
    • Advanced knowledge of BAL’s goals, policies, and best practices
    • Advanced knowledge of BAL’s internal database system, Cobalt®
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proven ability to handle a high volume of cases
  • Proven ability to handle complex, challenging, and VIP cases
  • Proven ability to manage corporate clients as it relates to area of specialization
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Team practices
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the area of global immigration
  • Proven ability to lead by example, mentors junior staff and provides constructive feedback; “Go To” person on Team
  • Ability to quickly absorb, learn and become skilled at a variety of legal work
  • Able and willing to share knowledge with others and effectively communicate policies/procedures/protocols to all
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in all dealings
  • Must be able to multi-task and able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly collaborative; must effectively participate in and facilitate a oneBAL team environment; professional, respectful attitude towards all coworkers
  • Must have excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills

  • Ability to travel within a limited radius to client sites or consulates
  • Excellent English language skills, both verbal and written

Experience

  • 3+ years’ work experience in an office environment
  • Corporate, Immigration, or relevant experience preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular and on-time attendance.
  • Must be able to prioritized, schedule and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules.
  • A certain degree of creativity and flexibility is required.
  • Hours may exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
