Job Description

Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general direction, compile, analyze, evaluate, correlate and disseminate criminal intelligence information to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as part of the Imperial Valley Law Enforcement Coordination Center Intelligence Support Unit (ISU). 

The Criminal Research Specialist I class is the journey-level of the Criminal Research Specialist series and is distinguished by its responsibility to collect and interpret a variety of criminal intelligence data and information for the purpose of assisting law enforcement in criminal investigation, apprehension, and prosecution activities. 

Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements

A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study that required coursework in data collection and statistical analysis plus one year of experience performing analytical or analysis work preferably within a criminal or intelligence unit servicing the military or a local, state or federal law enforcement agency; OR, two years of college coursework plus two years of experience as described; OR, four years of experience as described.

A valid California driver's license. Incumbents are required to obtain and maintain a federal Security clearance to participate in joint agency investigations involving classified information. U.S. Citizenship is required for clearance.

Supplemental Information

A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
 
 This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
