Job Duties

This position is with the Court and Legal Services Unit located at Department of Corrections’ Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

The Court and Legal Services Section operates to ensure the Virginia statutes and Virginia Department of Corrections policies and procedures governing the prisoner sentence computation process are accurately applied and that computations of sentences results in the establishment of accurate release dates for prisoners confined within the Virginia Department of Corrections and the local jails of Virginia.

This position ensures accurate and appropriate responses for the Court & Legal Manager are generated to include inquiries from inmates, attorneys, institutional staff, and other government agencies. Assists with communication to the jails, external partners, and stakeholders. Provides support to the Attorney General’s Office to coordinate the preparation of affidavits and court responses. Provides responses to inmate grievances for the Court & Legal Manager and Chief of Operations

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Good working knowledge of, and ability to apply office administrative principles and systems. Skill in operating computer and other office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally. Ability to access, interpret, and maintain automated files. Ability to collect, organize, and document information. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to analyze and resolve problems with general guidance from supervisor. Ability to research and respond to diverse requests involving inmate records.

Additional Considerations

Experience in administrative support; Advanced knowledge in criminal justice, corrections, business, management, administration, legal concepts or related field.
