The Sections Specialist will be responsible for supporting all aspects of AILA's Sections coordination and execution. AILA Sections comprise a community of AILA members with a shared legal practice interest providing a forum and a means to share information and to receive mentorship and education. The Sections Specialist collaborates closely with other team members in preparation for events. Specifically, the Sections Specialist will be responsible for AILA’s Removal Defense Section, Federal Court Litigation Section, Business Section, Global Migration Section, and Family Section, as well as potentially supporting the development and rollout of additional sections.
Essential Job Functions include:
Component/AILA Community Relations
- Serve as primary liaison for the Removal Defense Section (RDS), Federal Court Litigation Section (FCLS), Business Section (BIZS), Global Migration Section (GMS), and Family Section (FS). Activities include working with the section leadership, organizing liaison calls, recording call and meeting minutes, article development, and activities, including online learning events.
- Monitor the email listserv for each of the above sections.
- Work with each section and the eLearning Manager to identify and organize quarterly section call programming to support the sections and increase awareness of relevant and late-breaking legal issues.
- Administer educational programming offered by the sections.
- Manage and develop engagement and retention strategies to increase section value.
- Work with the section leadership to identify ways to increase visibility of the section and promote growth.
- Communicate effectively with the offices of high-level legal professionals
- Aid in creating and editing content for section webpages in collaboration with section leadership and AILA National Information Technology staff.
Seminar Administration Support
- Serve as back-up to the Education Coordinator, administering web seminar programming.
Annual Conference & Other Conferences
- Work on special projects for the Annual Conference and Global Forum and other Professional Development events as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING
An undergraduate degree is required. Knowledge of immigration law is preferred. Continuing legal education (CLE), association education, or adult education experience a plus.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
2-4 years direct experience, preferably in an Association environment or as immigration legal support staff. Hands-on experience working with membership-driven organization a plus.
Must have the ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
