 Job Description:

Gross and Company is conducting multiple Metro-Detroit area Personal Injury Law Firm client searches for skilled and driven Civil Rights Trial Attorneys. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in litigating and trying civil rights cases, a strong commitment to justice, and a passion for advancing the cause of civil rights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a caseload of civil rights cases from inception to resolution, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, and trial.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and craft effective legal arguments to support the clients position.
  • Prepare and argue motions, including dispositive motions and motions in limine.
  • Represent clients in court during hearings, mediations, and trials, including as first-chair trial counsel.
  • Depose parties, witnesses, and experts, and prepare expert witnesses for trial testimony.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and support staff to develop comprehensive case strategies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring regular communication and compassionate legal guidance.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for systemic change through impactful litigation or settlement outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Michigan.
  • Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience, with at least 2 years focused on civil rights or constitutional law.
  • Proven trial experience, including first-chair or significant participation in jury trials.
  • Deep understanding of civil rights laws, including federal statutes like Section 1983, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and a demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  • Familiarity with electronic discovery processes and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience litigating cases involving police misconduct, wrongful convictions, or systemic discrimination.
  • Established relationships with civil rights organizations, advocacy groups, or experts in the field.
  • Appellate experience is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on experience. $150,000 to $200,000 plus significant success bonus potential.
