Job Description

What You'll Do:

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is seeking a Medical Legal Support Specialist for an opening in the Court of Claims Section. This position will provide medical expertise and support to attorneys in the Court of Claims Defense section defending medical malpractice and personal injury cases. The successful candidate will be able to identify problems, collect data or information to establish facts and draw valid conclusions to prepare meaningful, concise, accurate and well-arranged reports and timelines. The Medical Legal Support Specialist will work independently and cooperatively with various groups of people, including outside agencies. 

This position is based in Columbus and offers a hybrid in person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Analyze medical records and prepare detailed medical record summary and timeline.
  • Evaluate cases and identify facts within the records that are both helpful and hurtful to our case. 
  • Prepare and maintain accurate work papers, records and files.
  • Participate in meetings with medical providers and ask relevant questions.
  • Obtain medical records from third parties.
  • Assist in preparing for depositions and trials.
  • Assist in the selection and retention of expert witnesses.
  • Research medical literature for information about conditions and/or procedures.
  • Review expert reports for points of criticism.

Must be licensed in a medical field (ex. LPN, RN, DO, DC, etc.) and be in good standing with licensing board.

Knowledge and experience working with the following is required\: medical terminology; review/interpretation of medical records and imaging studies; standards of care; health care services rules and regulations. 

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word.

Preferred qualifications\: paralegal certificate/license/training; legal terminology and civil procedure
