Program Summary
The mission of the Legal Services team is to provide direct legal services to our most vulnerable community members. We are a multidisciplinary team with Immigration Law, Disability Law, and Family Law units. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with and receive mentorship from attorneys with diverse specialties, credentials, and experiences across these disciplines.
Position Summary
This position manages IRCO’s Family Legal Services program under the broader Legal Services umbrella. Responsibilities include directly representing clients in their family law matters, designing and implementing standard operating procedures, ensuring quality client outcomes, liaising with colleague and funder agencies, and completing funder-required data and narrative reports. The Family Law Managing Attorney will have the opportunity to recruit, hire, and manage a Legal Assistant and other direct reports as the Family Law program grows.
Essential Functions
- Provide legal consultations and brief or full-scope representation to survivors of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking in family law matters arising from or related to the abuse. Case types will include protection orders, divorce, child custody and visitation, establish of paternity, child support, and spousal support.
- Represent clients in court proceedings
- Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements
- Work with the Legal Services Sector Manager to establish a standard operating procedure for the Family Law Services program, including effective and efficient procedures for screening, consultations, legal services agreements, case management, incoming and outgoing mail, and case closing
- Collaborate with other IRCO teams, including Immigration Legal Services, Disability Legal Services, and Survivor Services, as well as other local non-profit service providers, to conduct outreach and design trauma-informed family law program that is responsive to the needs of immigrant and refugee survivors of violent crimes
- Participate in conversations with private and public funders. Work with the Legal Services Sector Manager to support proposals made to various funders. Engage in long-term growth and sustainability planning.
- Recruit and hire a team as the program grows, beginning with one Legal Assistant
- Supervise and work with a Legal Assistant who can support with legal research, filings, case management, and data management
Education & Experience
MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
- 3 years of experience in Family Law
- Licensure with the Oregon State Bar
- Trauma Informed Care: Ability to utilize trauma-informed practices in providing compassionate representation to community members
- Strong attention to detail: Demonstrated ability to review and process complex information accurately, identify inconsistencies, and ensure all documentation and filings are complete, compliant, and timely
- Legal Research: Skilled in identifying relevant statutes, regulations, and case law; synthesizing complex legal information; and preparing well-organized summaries to support legal strategy and client advocacy
- Case management: Proficient in managing multiple cases simultaneously by maintaining organized records, tracking deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and coordinating with supervisors, intake staff, and/or legal assistants to ensure effective and efficient service delivery
- Additional language is preferred, especially Spanish

- Work Independence: Positions at this level are single incumbent high level staff or technical positions, or those of the Senior Leadership Team where no internal review is likely because of specific nature of the position. Positions function with virtual autonomy
- Planning: Positions at this level have on-going planning and goal-setting responsibilities. Planning processes typically impact more than one function or work unit. Planning is made more difficult because of the number of alternatives or obstacles
- Environment: This level has a work environment that is well protected, with virtually no hazards or obstacles. There is very little element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are stable, usually well managed, and very comfortable.
- Schedule: The work schedule is mostly stable and does not fluctuate without prior notice.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Positions at this level are normally responsible for full managerial responsibilities including providing direction to other supervisors/managers regarding the supervision of their staff. Supervisory span will include direct and indirect reports
