Job Description

There is an anticipated vacancy for the position of ATTORNEY ADVISOR (GENERAL) of HQ US MARINE CORPS. .

Duties
  • You will serve as a Professional Responsibility and Ethics attorney responsible for the day-to-day duties related to Civil and Administrative Law.
  • You will provide advice/guidance concerning the rules of professional conduct governing the ethical conduct of lawyers, military and civilian, and process or monitor inquiries into allegations of misconduct by attorneys, paralegals and others.
  • You will be responsible for original research, writing, and advice; you will be responsible for reviewing all Investigations brought under the JAGINST on Professional Responsibility.
  • You will serve as a Marine Corps attorney for Ethics in JCA within the Judge Advocate Division.
  • You will help JCA manage the Marine Corps ethics program and provides legal services required by the Marine Corps related to ethics law.
  • You will develop and implement the ethics program with the Branch Head and Deputy Branch Head of JCA, which includes the review and maintenance of Marine Corps employees’ financial disclosure reports and ethics training for employees.
  • You will assist the Branch Head and Deputy Branch Head of JCA in determining and analyzing the facts of proposed actions involving conflicts of interest and gift acceptance.
  • You will provide advice on novel, unprecedented questions that significantly affect the Marine Corps.
  • You will prepare written and oral statements as to the legality, propriety, and desirability of the proposed action.
  • You will provide required reviews, certifications and other appropriate actions regarding OGE 450s; OGE 278s, the Public Financial Disclosure Reports, and other various financial and/or periodic transaction reports.
Salary
  • $142,488 - $185,234/year
Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. At least two years of professional attorney experience serving in the federal government is preferred, along with at least one year of experience serving as a federal government ethics official.Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Advising, guiding, or implementing the processing or monitoring of inquiries into allegations of professional misconduct; and reviewing all Investigations brought under the JAGINST on Professional Responsibility. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education The successful applicant must have graduated with a J.D. or LL.M. from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and be admitted to practice before a state or federal court.
