DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects and evidence collection.
  • Drafts legal documents including motions, affidavits, and discovery.
  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
  • Perform all aspects of discovery including drafting and responding of discovery requests and subpoenas; compiling, organizing coding/indexing documents.
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.
  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials, hearings, depositions, and mediations.
  • On a case-specific basis, oversees the organization and maintenance of the case file and Case Management Spreadsheet delegating to and overseeing the tasks of department assistants and/or file clerks, as needed.

 REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to organize files and workflow.
  • Must be available for overtime and travel, as needed.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Paralegal Certificate/Degree OR five years of litigation paralegal experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Florida and U.S. District Court laws, court procedures, and electronic discovery.
  • Experience with all stages of litigation, including intake, discovery, and trial.
  • Experience coordinating trial/arbitration logistics, including negotiating for workspace, setting-up remote office space, and coordinating with clients and vendors.
  • Experience maintaining processes to collect, store, and maintain paper and electronic case files.
  • Experience with court and administrative agency filings, including electronic or e-filings.
  • Experience using e-discovery databases and litigation support software for document production, witness files and deposition transcripts and exhibits.

Relevant experience within a large law firm is strongly preferred.

 REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATION

Member of appropriate professional organizations (Paralegal Association of Florida, Inc., National Association of Legal Assistants and Legal Assistant Management Association). Florida Registered Paralegal.
