Job Description

Description

The CBJ Law Department is seeking a Legal Office Assistant to join our team!

Launch your career in city government and take your first step into the legal field! As the Office Assistant for the City and Borough of Juneau Law Department, you’ll become a key part of the team that keeps municipal law operations running behind the scenes.  You’ll manage calls, emails, and the occasional walk-in visitor, ensuring information flows seamlessly while supporting attorneys and paralegals with essential administrative and legal tasks. Each day offers variety, from coordinating communications to assisting with legal document processing and keeping the office running smoothly.

This entry-level position is more than just an administrative role – it’s a springboard into the legal field and a pathway to becoming a paralegal or advancing within city government. You’ll gain hands-on experience with the processes and procedures that drive local law, learning from a team of attorneys and paralegals in a supportive, professional environment. If you have experience as an office assistant, receptionist, or administrative professional, and you’re ready to grow into a career in law or public service, this role is a perfect next step.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a focused, dependable individual with the following qualities:

  • Friendly, organized, and comfortable being the “first face” of the office.

  • Familiarity with basic technology, including email, printers, and simple file management.
  • Ready to handle confidential information with professionalism and care.
  • Curious, proactive, and eager to learn.

THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM
The Law Department is a vibrant and dynamic team that values innovation and technology to enhance day-to-day office efficiency. As a member of our team, you will be encouraged to develop new skills and participate in regular administrative meetings and training sessions with staff across all departments. You will have daily interactions with CBJ staff, gaining valuable insight into the functions of local government. Additionally, you will have opportunities to cross-train within the Law Department. We place a strong emphasis on camaraderie and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, both within the department and throughout the organization.

Typical Responsibilities

Part of your role includes updating legal reference materials, assisting with minor IT troubleshooting, and helping new staff get set up and oriented.
