State of New York See More Job Openings by This EmployerThe New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (ILS) seeks to hire an Appellate Attorney for the Statewide Appellate Support Center at ILS in Albany, New York. The Appellate Attorney will be part of a team that includes the ILS Director of Quality Enhancement for Appellate and Post-Conviction Representation, two Supervising Appellate Attorneys, two other Appellate Attorneys, an Assistant Appellate Attorney, a paralegal, a Special Assistant for Investigation and a Special Assistant for Mitigation. The Center helps fulfill the agency’s statutory mission to “improve the quality of services provided pursuant to article 18-B of the county law” and its vision for an innovative resource office for attorneys providing mandated criminal and Family Court defense statewide. The Appellate Attorney will help develop statewide initiatives and provide individual consultation services to improve mandated appellate and post- conviction representation.
Salary- $109,180/year
JD degree; admission to, or willingness to seek admission to, the New York State Bar; and two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years’ experience in criminal defense appellate practice; a commitment to improving mandated representation statewide; and a collegial and collaborative approach to team projects. Experience in appellate representation in Family Court matters is also desirable.
