- Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Probate Register, participates in the intake, review, processing and filing of documents pertaining to estates, commitments, guardianships, conservatorships and other probate matters. Types a variety of orders and other legal documents, enters case information into the computer, follows-up on documents or actions due by attorneys and other parties, and performs other tasks related to processing probate cases.
- Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Receives petitions, orders, inventories, accountings and other legal documents and examines for accuracy or completeness.
- Provides information via telephone and at the counter to attorneys and the public regarding the proper filing of petitions and other documents, prescribed time limits, procedural requirements and related matters.
- Processes mental commitment cases, includes receiving and reviewing the accuracy and completeness of petitions, applications for commitments and objections. Schedules hearings, appoints attorneys, obtains treatment reports, and prepares and issues notices.
- Receives and receipts filing and other statutory fees.
- Schedules guardianship, conservatorship, name change, review and other hearings, and sends notices to appropriate parties.
- Operates a computer terminal to enter, access and correct case related information; and to generate notices, orders, suspensions and other documents.
- Review annual and final accountings for accuracy of disbursements and verification of assets. Schedules required hearings and ensures readiness of hearings.
- Performs a variety of other tasks such as receiving and filing wills, making certified copies of documents, maintaining case activity statistics, computing inventory fees, processing mail, and related tasks.
- Assists in training staff.
- Works in other areas of the court as required.
- May record court proceedings in a back-up capacity.
- May assist the Court Services Division on a part-time basis with juror and other clerical tasks.
- Qualifications
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- One year of clerical experience, preferably in a probate court or closely related setting.
- $18.26 - $26.51/hour
