Job Description

Overview

This Paralegal (International Employment, Franchise and Immigration) role is a full-time position responsible for supporting the rapid global expansion of the Chick-fil-A brand by providing paralegal and project management support across various functional workstreams and international jurisdictions. Specifically, this role will support global and country-specific legal compliance, processes and systems as they relate to labor and employment, franchise, and immigration laws. In addition, this position will report directly to the Director of Legal - International Employment, Franchising & Immigration in the Chick-fil-A, Inc. Legal Department.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not necessarily limited to:

 

International Employment:

  • (1) Supporting the company’s international expansion efforts with various cross-border or country-specific employment processes and personnel records, such as drafting or updating employment agreements, secondment agreements, policies, handbooks, codes of conduct, applications, and other personnel records, and executing country-specific termination requirements (e.g., termination agreements, severance and notice entitlements).
  • (2) Assisting with communications and documentation related to medical leave and reasonable accommodation requests.
  • (3) Providing support on various international employment litigation and pre-litigation matters, including litigation tracking and responses to discovery requests, garnishments, unemployment notices, subpoenas, and other third-party requests for information and documents.

International Franchise:

  • (1) Managing the international, country-specific franchise agreements and related documentation for franchisees on behalf of Chick-fil-A international affiliates, including preparation, issuance and execution of country-specific franchise agreements, agreements for multi-unit opportunities, relocation agreements, franchise termination agreements, and various other related agreements and legal documentation between Chick-fil-A international affiliates and their respective franchisees.
  • (2) Leading the process of gathering information and updating international, country-specific franchise disclosure document (FDD) packages in compliance with laws of non-U.S. countries in which Chick-fil-A offers franchises, in collaboration with outside counsel and the Franchise Legal Team.
  • (3) Serving as a key contact for international franchise data and provide day-to-day guidance to the business and Legal teams.

Immigration:

  • (1) Serving as the primary internal point of Legal contact for global work visa matters and partnering with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to support employment-based visa cases, domestically and internationally.
  • (2) Collaborating with internal business partners and outside counsel to ensure compliance with U.S. and relevant international immigration regulations, including streamlining processes for global right-to-work checks and conducting audits on related processes and documents.
  • (3) Preparing and maintaining immigration-related files and reports in compliance with company policies and regulations, while tracking activities to identify process improvements.

Other Responsibilities:

  • (1) Assisting with the intake and assignment of new international employment, franchise and immigration legal matters.
  • (2) Preparing materials, tracking, and coordination for legal and compliance training programs.
  • (3) Providing support to various legal compliance efforts involving employment, immigration and franchise regulations in international markets, including conducting limited research on new or existing laws and their application to the business, preparing compliance summaries, and assisting with internal legal reviews and audits of policies, practices, documentation, document retention, and files.
    (4) Filing, maintaining databases, tracking, reporting, scheduling, and performing other administrative functions to assist the Legal – Employment Team's operations and its internal business partners, as needed and assigned.
  • (5) Providing other support to various projects within the Employment, Franchise, and Litigation Team, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7 years of experience providing legal or paralegal support in a corporate legal department or at a law firm.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing legal or paralegal support on labor & employment, franchise and/or immigration matters.
  • Paralegal Certification
