Duties Serves as the department head in the Correctional Services department at a Bureau of Prisons correctional institution. Serves as the resident expert on all custodial and security questions arising at the institution and has full and final technical responsibility when problems occur during the course of any given shift. Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control. Also inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee-inmate relations, and overall program coordination. Serves as an advisor to the Warden and his staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Must integrate these policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility, as well as the correctional department, and keep management advised of activities effecting institution programs. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. Salary- $88,621 - $135,773/year
