Position Overview:
The Paralegal reports directly to his or her assigned attorney and is trained and specialized to assist the attorney to resolve cases in litigating effectively by conducting legal research, investigating facts, and drafting legal documents.
Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain the organization of the digital file system
  • Keep discovery documents organized for use throughout litigation and to transform discovery documents to exhibits for trial
  • Prepare the first draft of documents, such as written discovery, written discovery responses, document production, witness list, expert list, exhibit lists, etc.
  • Draft and serve template discovery documents, such as notices, discovery subpoenas, and trial subpoenas, etc.
  • Prepare legal correspondence related to discovery to be issued to counsel and court
  • Review, prepare, and provide folders for attorney’s events, such as expert depositions, hearings on motions for summary judgment and evidentiary motions, etc.
  • Attend depositions and trials
  • Verbally communicate with law firms, witnesses, experts, the judiciary, etc.
  • Communicate with various internal departments, such as claims, SIU, underwriting, etc.
  • Meet paralegal’s deadlines to assist the attorney’s deadlines
  • Input billing for daily activity

Marginal Job Functions

  • Compile, analyze, and organize information
  • Assist attorneys in a legal office
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Paralegal skills for litigation, including an understanding of the rules of procedures and of substantive laws
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to handle heavy call volumes
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook and Adobe
  • Keen observation skills
