- Job Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill an 80% position, based on a 40-hour workweek (32 hours per week) with pro-rated benefits.
The position allocated to this class provides internal and external communications support for a wide range of departmental activities and functions. Utilizing various communication mediums, the incumbent will research, draft and disseminate content highlighting the activities and accomplishments of the department, increasing visibility and community engagement/education. Work is performed independently, within well-defined guidelines, under the direction of the Elected Prosecutor.- Examples of Duties
- Supports the department’s overall internal and external communication efforts to raise department visibility, awareness and engage the community.
- In coordination with departmental staff, researches, drafts and disseminates content such as press releases, newsletters, internal memos, etc. utilizing digital, print and other traditional media.
- Plans and implements technology-based strategies to assist in communicating information about department activities and initiatives.
- Provides both print and digital content (articles, features, pictures, journalistic writing, analytics, etc.) for the department’s website. May assist with website maintenance and updates.
- Designs, manages and monitors the social media components of the department’s web presence, drafting content and posting on various platforms (e.g. Facebook, X, YouTube, etc.).
- Builds and maintains the department’s content distribution network (e.g. social media channels and e-newsletters). Seeks ways to improve upon social media communications based on trends and analytics. Conducts research, implements plans, and measures results and effectiveness. Ensures all content is archived and in compliance with applicable record retention guidelines.
- Develops relationships with media professionals and expands office contacts and connections.
- Provides guidance in social networking, community relations, media relations and event planning as required. May arrange and coordinate media interviews and press conferences.
- May act as Master of Ceremonies for department-sponsored events and ceremonies, assisting in script content for staff members and introducing honorees/participants.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with external and internal audiences.
- Organizes and prioritizes work to ensure deadlines are met and projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintains open and continuous communication with department leadership regarding work product and the status of various projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field, or
- Two (2) years of experience in public communications, media relations, public relations or content-development experience.

- Knowledge of communication strategies and mediums to enhance public awareness and promote department initiatives and accomplishments.
- Knowledge of social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube) and current trends.
- Knowledge of conventions of technical writing and editing.
- Knowledge of relevant confidentiality requirements, policies and procedures.
- Skilled in drafting press releases, social media content and other press releases, newsletters, internal memos, etc. utilizing digital, print and other traditional media.
- Skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a broad audience of people, including internal and external contacts.
- Skilled in the use of office technology, including word processing, MS Office products and other publishing technologies as applicable.
- Ability to produce clear, concise and engaging content, documents, etc.
- Ability to work effectively with media, County officials and other stakeholders, maintaining a professional demeanor and exercising tact and discretion.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, prioritizing and organizing work assignments.
- Ability to collaborate and coordinate with department personnel and other stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
