Summary
We are seeking a driven and ambitious In-House Corporate Counsel (Employment Attorney) to join our team. The selected candidate will oversee and manage all legal aspects related to handling complex employment litigation, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes for City Electric Supply throughout North America. This person should be a natural leader, highly motivated, and possess a strong desire to contribute to the success of the business. They will have a keen interest in continuously educating themselves on industry trends and emerging opportunities to strategically expand our real estate portfolio. This role is integral to supporting our mission of expanding our department’s reach in serving the company while maintaining our core values and commitment to excellence.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide comprehensive legal advice on employment-related matters, including hiring, discipline, workplace investigations, and compliance with employment laws.
- Create and negotiate employment agreements, policies, and other related documents to ensure legal compliance and protect the company’s interests.
- Collaborate with various departments to provide legal support and align employment practices with the company’s overall goals.
- Spearhead strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing our employment practices and fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Work alongside HR and management to identify and seize opportunities that support our business objectives and promote a compliant work environment.
- Assess current employment practices and develop innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the legal department.
- Proficiency in contract lifecycle management software is preferred. Experience with tools like Ironclad is a plus.
- Excellent writing and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Education/Experience
- Must be licensed to practice law in the United States with a J.D. or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school.
- At least 3 years of experience in employment law, preferably with in-house experience.
- Proven track record of handling complex employment litigation, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes.
- Experience advising on employment policies, procedures, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Ability to think analytically and creatively and to problem solve, with a focus on current, innovative, and proactive approaches to employment law and general litigation Participate in strategic planning and provide legal support to various departments within the company.
- Deep understanding of employment law, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII, and other relevant statutes.
- Ability to provide strategic legal advice to HR and management on a wide range of employment issues, including hiring, discipline, leave, termination, and workplace investigations.

- Proficient in negotiating settlements and resolving disputes through mediation and arbitration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop practical solutions—familiarity with government contract compliance and multi-state compliance is a plus.
