Counsel – Immigration Litigation and Human Rights Defense

Grossman Young & Hammond, a family-friendly immigration and international human rights law firm, is seeking an experienced attorney to join our immigration and litigation practice. Former government officials with immigration-related litigation and/or policy experience are encouraged to apply. This position also involves as-needed work for our renowned International Protection Practice, which focuses on advocating for victims of transnational repression, particularly before INTERPOL. The attorney will ideally be based in our Bethesda, Maryland office, though remote opportunities are available.  Applicants should have at least 7 years’ experience working in the field of immigration law.   

The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for immigrant rights, has significant management experience and leadership skills, works collaboratively with others, and thrives working in a fast-paced and collegial environment. Must have proven immigration litigation and advocacy experience, including before federal courts and the various U.S. agencies handling immigration matters, including the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Familiarity with the nexus of criminal and immigration law is preferred. Excellent organizational skills, superior research and writing ability, and attention to detail required. Applicants must be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state. 

Responsibilities include managing a talented team of paralegals and attorneys in order to support client case work and litigation, representing clients before tribunals and U.S. government agencies, preparing briefs for immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal district and appellate courts, assisting the Firm’s partners in particularly complex matters, engaging in business development and marketing, and developing and improving best practices and procedures to contribute to the Firm’s overall success.   

Spanish language skills are preferred but not required. Some travel may be required.
