EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Associate’s degree or two (2) years of college and/or university courses in law, paralegal, education, finance or other courses
Preferred: - Bilingual (Spanish and English)
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) to five (5) years of administrative/office experience including two (2) years experience in a K-12 public school or law office environment
- Experience in Title IX and other compliance-related investigations
- Experience in digital accessibility identification and remediation
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: The legal specialist is primarily responsible for providing administrative support to the legal department, assisting with ongoing legal case management, Title IX administrative support and compliance organization, meeting with students and families regarding truancy matters, managing and tracking CORA requests,, and providing back up for worker’s compensation and truancy court attendance. This position will also provide support to the finance department on an as-needed basis. The legal specialist may perform a number of other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described.
Essential Functions:
Skilled in technology use
Highly proficient in the Google Apps suite of tools, Microsoft Office applications including Excel, and other job-appropriate software applications like Parallels, Frontline Absence Management/Applicant Tracking, LogiKull, and Infinite Campus. Develops computer forms, charts, and graphs as needed for reports and other documents. Assists the Legal Department in maintaining records.
Title IX/Compliance
Supports Title IX Coordinator and Compliance Officer with data management and administrative tasks for all non-discrimination investigations, which includes monitoring supportive measures and informal resolutions, and investigation tracking. Will be responsible for all data management and administrative tasks for each investigation conducted by the district. May assist with parent and student meetings, support and informal resolution processes.
Truancy case management
Receives truancy referrals from school sites, reviews referrals for accuracy, and opens truancy matters using legal software. Assists in tracking all truancy cases, including sharing information with schools regarding their individual truancy cases. Meets with students and parents regarding their truancy cases. Assists with truancy docket as otherwise directed.
Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) management
Manages incoming CORA (Colorado Open Records Act) requests, assists the legal department in reviewing and preparing documents for release, and keeps accurate records of requests that have been completed.
Accessibility
Assists the legal and finance departments with tracking and verifying the district’s compliance with Colorado’s digital accessibility laws.
Legal Support
Supports Legal Counsel with research projects, drafting documents, and managing case files. Assists with locating and contacting witnesses, and analyzing records and disciplinary files.
Finance
This position will provide administrative assistance to the Finance department for general clerical duties on an as-needed basis.

- Fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written skills, is strongly preferred

- May provide guidance and training to co-workers
- With bilingual Spanish/English speaking and writing skills, this position will assist with minor translations, confirm accuracy of written communications, and assist callers and visitors who speak Spanish
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Work Environment/ Physical Demands: Ability to sit for long periods of time, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity are important. Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
