Job Duties
This position is with the Court and Legal Services Unit located at Department of Corrections’ Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.
The Court and Legal Services Section operates to ensure the Virginia statutes and Virginia Department of Corrections policies and procedures governing the prisoner sentence computation process are accurately applied and that computations of sentences results in the establishment of accurate release dates for prisoners confined within the Virginia Department of Corrections and the local jails of Virginia.
This position researches, evaluates and interprets incoming court orders and jail credits to determine how the documents are to be disseminated.
Minimum Qualifications
Basic knowledge of the Code of Virginia as it pertains to criminal sentencing. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and interpret complex laws, legal documents and policies. Working skills in operating automated equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of offender-based practices. Ability to work independently and analyze and resolve problems with general guidance from supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships inside and outside the work unit. Ability to adapt to changes in procedures, priorities and the automated system. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Additional Considerations
Experience in a field related to criminal justice, especially in criminal procedures and records processes.
