Job Duties

  • This individual will analyze, investigate, and prosecute suspected violations of the new Consumer Data Protection Act, the Virginia Consumer Protection Act, and other state and federal consumer privacy statutes.
  • In addition, the individual will have secondary responsibility for analyzing, investigating, and prosecuting violations of other state and federal consumer protection laws as needed.
  • Must have excellent writing skills and be prepared to appear in the appropriate state or federal court in actions filed against alleged violators.
  • Will also work with counterparts in other states and federal agencies, assist in drafting official opinions, and review proposed legislation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases; well-developed oral and written communication skills; and the ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public.
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, concentrating on consumer privacy or consumer protection matters.
  • Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.

Additional Considerations

International Association of Privacy Professionals’ Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification is desired and can be obtained after employment.
