Job Description

LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is a high-growth renewable energy company forging a sustainable future through integrity, innovation, and positive impact. We own and operate 30 large wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States, totaling over 3 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.

LRE has an ambitious goal of 10GW of operating assets by 2028 and are developing and contracting an increasing pipeline of new projects every year. We take a full-lifecycle approach to our projects, built on a long-term ownership model and a company culture dedicated to our community partners and protecting the environment.

Job Summary: 

Leeward Renewable Energy is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Counsel to support our construction and procurement functions. The successful candidate will provide legal guidance on engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, as well as supply chain and vendor agreements. This role requires a deep understanding of construction law, contract negotiation, and risk mitigation in the renewable energy sector. The position is in Dallas, Texas and will report to Associate General CounselThe successful candidate will work with all levels of the organization and contribute to the companys success

 

Responsibilities:

  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate EPC contracts,  supply agreements, and other commercial contracts to support the Project Execution team.
  • Procurement Support: Provide legal support for procurement processes, vendor agreements, and supply chain management to ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Dispute Resolution & Risk Management: Identify legal risks, propose solutions, and manage disputes related to construction, contract performance, and vendor relationships.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including project development, finance, engineering, and operations, to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Policy & Best Practices: Develop and implement internal policies, training materials, and best practices for contract management and procurement processes.
  • External Counsel Management: Coordinate with outside counsel as needed for specialized legal matters. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • JD degree from an accredited law school 

  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one state

  • At least seven years of experience in construction law, procurement, or infrastructure projects, preferably within the renewable energy sector.

  • Familiarity with the IRA, PPAs, Interconnect Agreements, and laws governing renewable energy strongly preferred.

  • Proficient knowledge of all types of contracts and other documents relevant to the development, operation, acquisition, and financing of renewable energy projects, including balance of plant agreements, turbine supply agreements, operation and maintenance agreements, power purchase agreements, permits, estoppels, certificates, purchase orders, loan and security agreements, consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and other relevant documentation. 

  • Strong commercial acumen 

  • Organizational and planning skills. 

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and anticipate issues.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Flexibility in work responsibilities 

  • Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product 

  • Must be professional, personable, approachable, creative, and courteous.  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication 

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Some travel may be required but is not anticipated with regularity.

  • Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
