Job Description

Associate Attorney – Immigration: Removal Defense, Human Rights & Litigation

Grossman Young & Hammond, an internationally recognized, family-friendly immigration and international human rights law firm, is seeking a full-time associate attorney to work in the firm’s immigration and litigation practice. The associate will also support the Firm’s international protection practice on an as-needed basis. The attorney will work out of the firm’s Bethesda, Maryland office, although remote opportunities are available.

 

The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives working in a collegial environment and is passionate about advocating for immigrant rights. Must have broad and deep knowledge of the U.S. immigration system. Ideal candidates are comfortable representing clients before EOIR as well as federal district and circuit courts. Must have excellent organizational skills; proven, superior writing ability; oral advocacy prowess; and attention to detail.  The candidate is creative, articulate, has a can-do attitude, and is intellectually curious.  The candidate will be mentored by and support a team of senior attorneys and partners. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Synthesizing legal research and analysis into written memoranda or briefs, preparing court filings, appearing in court and before various agencies, and performing case work as assigned;
  • Identifying potential issues in client cases and developing strategies to address them;
  • Researching, analyzing and staying up-to-date on relevant areas of the law and current events;
  • Conducting/participating in client meetings and calls;
  • Preparing applications for immigration benefits; 
  • Responding to client inquiries;
  • Informing senior attorneys, partners and clients of important peripheral matters, e.g. case status, filing deadlines, I-94 issues, travel considerations etc…

 

2-5 years’ experience in immigration law preferred.  

Spanish language skills preferred.
