PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and logistics facilities. We are seeking a talented Corporate Counsel to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF. This role would be located onsite at our company headquarters in Parsippany, NJ or one of our locations in Paulsboro, NJ or The Woodlands, TX if they are more convenient to the applicant.
The Corporate Counsel will report directly to the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and will assist with respect to legal matters relating to support of the logistics business and other Legal Department support as required.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In furtherance of the foregoing, the Corporate Counsel will:
- Provide support to the logistics commercial group including reviewing, drafting and negotiating 3rd party commercial agreements for storage and other terminaling services, pipeline connections and joint ventures
- Advise on complex commercial transactions, including interstate and intrastate pipeline, terminaling and storage facilities and transport arrangements
- Advise on Real Estate matters including franchises, rights of way and leases
- Work collaboratively with the logistics team including commercial, operations and compliance to achieve the best possible outcome for the Company
- Partner with other attorneys regarding transactional matters, regulatory compliance and business governance matters
- Provide legal support for logistics contract procurement group and claims and disputes
- Support the needs of the Legal Department and perform other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Candidates should have an inquisitive nature with a specific interest in energy and regulatory law, and should demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
- Have a strong understanding of refining and logistics business preferrable
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Excellent communication skills and detail oriented
- Knowledge of human resources issues and labor matters
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental issues
- Solid research skills with an ability to read critically and identify and solve problems
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively and prioritize assignments
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate a sense of urgency
- Practical, solution-oriented problem solving approach
- Ability to exercise sound judgment to identify risks and convey advice
- Ability to interact confidently and respectfully with peers as well as more junior or senior team members
- Ability to maintain the highest ethics and the ability to preserve absolute confidentiality
- Ability to work well with others through every level of the organization and particularly within a small legal in-house department is essential
- Willingness to travel as needed (<10%)
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- J.D. Degree required
- Licensed to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction or willing to register as Authorized In-House Counsel in either New Jersey or Texas depending on location.
- Approximately 10 years of experience working in a corporate or law firm environment preferably with a focus on midstream/logistics matters in the energy industry
