Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistic, Information Systems, Criminal Justice, or related fields;
  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and Access, with experience in data analysis and visualization, especially in fraud detection;
  • Experience in analyzing healthcare or Medicaid claims data, with a focus on detecting fraud, waste, or abuse in such environment.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in healthcare fraud investigation within a government agency or Medicaid fraud control unit;
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools to present findings effectively;
  • Experience in conducting in-house training for team members on SQL programming, data analytics, or related investigative tools.

Job Concepts

The Louisiana Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is a state law enforcement agency whose mission is to investigate and prosecute health care providers who have defrauded the Medicaid program. The MFCU also investigates and prosecutes allegations of abuse and neglect of residents in health care facilities.

The MFCU utilizes a team-based approach to uncover abuse and neglect of residents and complex financial fraud committed by healthcare providers, including hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies, physicians, dentists, nurses, and other Medicaid providers.  The MFCU holds offenders accountable through criminal prosecution and civil litigation.  From inception through disposition, the programmer/data specialist will assist attorneys and investigators in criminal and civil investigations and prosecutions.

Examples of Work

The duties and requirements of an Investigative Analyst in the Medicaid Fraud Control Uni shall include, but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Collaborate with Special Agents and Assistant Attorneys General on Medicaid Fraud and Abuse investigations and prosecutions.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate criminal intelligence information and healthcare claims data from a variety of sources.
  • Prepare a variety of documents, reports, and spreadsheets related to assigned projects and cases.
  • Conduct in-depth data mining and analysis using SQL to identify patterns indicative of fraud in Medicaid claims.
  • Assist in maintaining data quality and integrity throughout the analysis process.
  • In-house training of analyst staff on analytics, SQL programming and other related functions, as needed

  • $55,000 - $70,000/year
