We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized District Court Clerk to join the Court Administrator’s Office. You will assist the Court Administrator with administrative and clerical duties to ensure smooth court operations for 6 Criminal District Courts. Candidates must possess strong verbal communication skills, be able to work well with the public, and demonstrate a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Understanding how a criminal court runs is a plus. - Example of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: - Checks dockets daily for 6 Criminal District Courts for accuracy
- Assists the public and attorneys with scheduling hearings in the office
- Answers phones and responds to emails
- Requests bench warrants
- Assists with grand jury dockets and District Court budgets
- Sends notices of court settings to attorneys, defendants and bondsmen
- Prepares dockets and maintains the accuracy of those dockets for 6 Criminal District Courts
- Attends court dockets, resets cases, and maintains updated case and bond forfeiture lists
- Works closely with judges, court staff and attorneys
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Court Administrator
- Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of legal administrative experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
Knowledge of:
- County and state legal principles, practices, procedures, statutes, codes and court operations
- Public information rules and procedures
- Records retention rules and procedures
- Civil and criminal process laws and procedures
- Legal terminology, practices and procedures
- Modern office procedures and equipment
- Department policies, procedures and regulations applicable to assigned duties
Skill in:
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with supervisors, other County departments, elected officials, external public agencies and organizations, attorneys, and the general public
- Using initiative, discretion, and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules
- Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
- Building effective work teams and providing effective customer service
- Operating a personal computer and various software applications.
Ability to:
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Organize work, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records and attention to detail.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license
- TLETS certification within six (6) months of employment and maintain certification
- CJIS Security Awareness Training: Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
