Realty Income is looking to hire an AVP, Senior Legal Counsel who will provide professional legal counsel for the leasing and management of the Company’s national portfolio of properties. Responsibilities include assistance to Asset Management, Property Management and Lease Administration business units on a broad range of legal matters; supervise and administer all necessary legal services in assigned matters, in conjunction with other in-house attorneys, paralegals or outside counsel as required; and provide legal advice to relevant decision makers throughout the Company, including upper management and executives.
What you will be working on:
- Draft and negotiate complex leases and leasing related documents (e.g., amendments, consents to assignments and subleases, guaranties, deferred maintenance agreements, lease termination agreements), including for bulk leasing and master lease transactions.
- Provide sophisticated legal support to the Company’s property management business team through creative problem solving.
- Review and analyze tenants’ corporate organizational structure in connection with lease assignments and change of control matters.
- Counsel internal clients regarding a myriad of legal issues, including lease interpretation, risk mitigation strategies, defaults, violations, CAM issues and disputes, REAs, CCRAs, title and survey matters, and sustainability and environmental matters.
- Supervise, develop and mentor direct reports to develop skills, cultivate teamwork, and advance career goals.
- Supervise outside counsel, as applicable.
- Support VP, Sr. Legal Counsel in providing leadership and direction to the legal team in issue spotting, problem-solving, risk mitigation, best practices, and drafting skills to continually provide quality legal services.
- Assist executives with the Legal Department in the development and enhancement of form documents for use by the Legal Department and business units.
- Work with executives within the Legal Department in the creation and revision of corporate policies and procedures and assist as necessary in the implementation of same.
Secondary functions:
- Perform general document review and drafting (e.g., confidentiality agreements, letters of intent).
- Provide routine advice/counsel to all departments on legal matters.
- Manage miscellaneous and various corporate legal matters.
- Prepare presentations and provide training to attorneys, paralegals, Asset Management, Property Management, and others, as requested.
What you need to be successful:
- We expect our legal counsel to have a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
- We expect 10+ years of relevant, on-point legal experience, either in-house or with a law firm.
- Significant experience in commercial real estate law, with a strong focus on representing landlords or tenants in complex leasing and property management matters involving numerous asset types.
- Active bar license in good standing in the state in which you reside.

The pay range for this role is $164,620 - $207,686 - $264,749.
Offers near the high end are uncommon but may be considered for candidates with exceptional experience and skills and are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. You may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and an annual discretionary stock award, to be discussed during the interview process. An annual pay rate and total compensation package is generally determined by the candidate's experience, knowledge, education, skills, performance, and abilities, as well as internal equity, company performance, and alignment with market data.
