Job Duties | Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for managing staff, including hiring, goal setting, planning and delegation of work, training and development, coaching/mentoring and completing performance evaluations.
  • Interact and communicate directly with outside counsel vendors to optimize compliance with Citizens Billing Guidelines to include providing training and direct feedback. Prepare and analyze reports measuring performance of outside counsel with respect to billing compliance. Identify trends or patterns of improper billing. Recommend corrective action plans with respect to outside counsel vendors as necessary.
  • Management of day-to-day unit activities and assist in handling complex legal billing issues to ensure compliance with the strategic objectives of the company and litigation procedures. Provide direction on processing activities to ensure operational trends and litigation needs are met. Approves any adjustments made to complex and/or large dollar invoices/appeals submitted by counsel in order to identify billing issues and inconsistencies with the Company Billing Guidelines. Overseeing the inflow/outflow of a large volume of litigation invoices and ensuring production is in line with accuracy and timeliness expectations. Managing a complex, multi-faceted operational process involving resources with varying specialties. 
  • Responsible for ensuring quality and accuracy of the legal bill review process. Collaborate with internal business partners and the vendor providing Citizens’ legal billing system in order to streamline the billing process, provide efficiencies and consistency in the billing process/system and develop reporting to enhance the effectiveness of the billing process.
  • Maintain Billing Guidelines, ensuring that processes and protocols are regularly reviewed and updated for efficiencies. Conduct periodic reviews and updates of litigation guidelines and bill review protocols to ensure that industry best practices are employed.

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of the insurance litigation process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of legal billing policies and practices

  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external business partners, attorneys, claimants and policyholders.

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of team (legal and project), to lead, follow, and collaborate.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of work and prioritize/assign tasks to meet production targets/goals. 
  • Ability to manage a multi-faceted operational process.

Relevant Experience:

5 or more years legal billing experience AND 3 or more years of supervisory/management experience.

  • High School Diploma | GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree OR 4 years relevant experience, OR a combination of college education and relevant experience equivalent to 4 years.
  • Additional education may count towards experience.

Preferred Experience/Education:

  • Strongly prefer experience in involving invoice compliance review/processing
  • JD degree and admission to Florida Bar 
  • Certification, training and/or experience as a Paralegal 
  • Previous homeowners and commercial property insurance experience 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of property claims practices, and legal terminology 
  • Comprehensive understanding of Citizen’s legal procedures and services.
  • Experience handling vendor/contract compliance issues
  • Experience managing large/complex operational systems and processes
