The starting pay range for this position is $100,093.53-$125,116.91/annual, and final pay rate will be determined based on experience, education, skills, and internal equity factors. What you'll do
Responsible for providing legal support and advice to all Canvas teams on a variety of legal, regulatory compliance, and operational issues affecting Canvas. Reviews, drafts, and negotiates legal documents and represents Canvas in legal proceedings, and/or coordinates representation with outside counsel under the direction of the General Counsel.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide legal review, analysis, advice, and recommendations regarding legal issues affecting Canvas.
- Review and analyze developing trends and changes in laws and regulations that may affect Canvas and advise Canvas’ leadership team and other stakeholders of the potential strategic and operational impact of such trends and changes. Assist in the implementation of regulatory changes as necessary.
- Address day-to-day legal issues raised by various teams at Canvas.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts executed by the credit union and provide legal advice on vendor and contract issues.
- Conduct legal due diligence on third-party vendors or partners with which the credit union conducts business.
- Represent the credit union as the attorney of record in legal matters, as appropriate based on business need.
- Assist business units in compliance with all Federal and State regulatory requirements and Canvas policies and procedures and recommend and assist with development of new policies and procedures.
- Support Canvas’ legal and compliance teams under the direction of the General Counsel.
- Assist the General Counsel with policy and governance matters and strategic and enterprise-level legal and compliance issues.
- Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
- Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
- Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Strong relationship and people leadership skills; able to build and foster teamwork.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex legal documents.
- Able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
Education or Formal Training: Bachelor’s and JD degrees required; must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in Colorado.
Experience: Minimum of two years’ legal experience working in a related field; three to five years’ legal experience preferred, with at least two years working in financial services.

Working Environment/Physical Activities
High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
