What are we looking for?
We’re looking for an experienced, self-motivated, practical and creative lawyer to join our small and nimble team. You will be supporting a growing business, so you’ll need to be enthusiastic about working successfully as an individual contributor and a team player. In this role, your primary focus will be supporting our AI-native product suite. You are or will grow into being a subject matter expert and influential advisor to senior business and legal leadership on generative AI.
What will you do?
- You will drive strategy on cutting-edge legal issues in generative AI and serve as subject matter expert on artificial intelligence technology; and draft, negotiate and close artificial intelligence transactions of varying complexity.
- You will play a leading role in ensuring the company’s regulatory compliance and advise on legal considerations around the data lifecycle (e.g., ingestion, use, sharing, and deletion of data) in products, including data mapping.
- You will provide guidance on intellectual property, open source, AI and privacy related issues to various departments within the company and work with Product and Engineering to embed privacy-by-design and compliance-by-design principles in product planning and execution decisions, including with respect to integration of acquired products.
- You will work with stakeholders from other groups, including Product, Engineering, Customer Success, IT, Support, and Corporate Development, to assess privacy risks and develop AI governance policies and best practices. This will include establishing governance frameworks for models, data, and other assets that shape AI development that include best practices in areas such as data governance, security, privacy, and AI safety and responsibility.
- You will advise technical teams and senior management on risks associated with AI research direction and existing governance frameworks; and present options to mitigate or eliminate those risks, as well as how to translate new and existing governance frameworks into actionable, technical requirements and implement them across systems
What skills and experience should you bring?
- You have in-house experience at a technology company, with significant transactional and product counseling experience.
- You're familiar with and have advised on key legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to AI products and systems, as well as general privacy regulations in the SaaS space (e.g., GDPR, CPRA, EU AI Act)
- You have a well-grounded knowledge of intellectual property law.
- You demonstrate sound and practical business judgment in counseling clients and throughout your work.
- You have the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and demanding work environment and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- You have a bias and drive for action, learning and problem solving.
- You are highly responsive with a service-focused approach.
- You are both a collaborative teammate and able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- You have a track record of contributions to AI products or systems, and have a balanced view of the opportunities and risks of those AI products or systems.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in cybersecurity.
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).
- Experience with acquisition diligence and integration.
