Trial Paralegal

Due to our continuing growth and success, we are seeking a full-time paralegal to join our new and developing in-house law firm! This position will support a small group of attorneys handling insurance defense cases.  The ideal candidate will have experience handling cases involving No Fault/PIP, UM/UIM, & Bodily Injury lawsuits in preparation of trial.

Essential Job Functions/Requirements:

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting trial attorneys in preparation of all aspects of litigation and trial preparation with discovery related tasks, medical record collection, medical summaries/chronologies, deposition support, trial notebooks, and overall trial preparation.

  • 5+ years’ experience as a paralegal handling cases specific to No Fault/PIP coverage, bodily injury and/or UM/UIM claims.

  • Specific experience interacting with the Court, drafting pleadings, motions in limine, discovery requests; coordinating de bene esse depositions and trial witness availability, and managing all other aspects of litigation files from inception through and including trial.

  • Administrative skills necessary to assist with litigation management and trial preparation.

  • Civil litigation and insurance defense experience preferred.

  • Paralegal Certification and/or equivalent education/experience required.

  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Must be able to work independently, as well as possess strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively to co-workers, clients, and external parties. 

  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment, managing an electronic-based case load.      

  • Must be organized, able to manage and meet deadlines, and have the ability to multitask, while prioritizing work.

  • Ability to travel to Michigan Courts as needed for trial. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Experience/Qualifications: 

  • Paralegal Certificate a plus

  • College Degree (4yr preferred) 

  • Legal/law firm trial experience preferred with insurance defense. The candidate must possess excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, and the ability to multitask. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel and spreadsheet analysis    

 

Physical Actions/Environment: Working conditions are typical of an office environment. Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and/or carrying up to 510 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing. Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions. Candidates must be willing to work onsite in the Detroit, MI and Southfield, MI office.


Schedule: Full-Time; 8:30am-5pm.


Location: The office is presently located in Detroit, MI.  It is anticipated that the office will be relocated to the Greater Detroit Area, most likely to Southfield, MI in the coming months.
