Our Elder Law and Medicaid planning team tirelessly advocates for clients needing long-term care. We develop a care plan that will provide loved ones with quality care, maintain their quality of life, and protect as much of their assets as the law allows while accessing the appropriate public benefits.
Essential Job Duties:
- Coordinates with banks, financial advisors, CPAs/accountants, care managers, social workers, Department of Social Services, Social Security, Veterans Administration, clients' family, etc.
- Researches, gathers, and accurately analyzes bank and financial statements to determine assets and traces all meaningful financial transactions within previous 5 years.
- Implements asset protection plans created by attorneys and identifies problems that require attorney involvement or intervention.
- Accurately prepares and completes the various components of the Medicaid application process within required timeframe.
- Travels to clients in the community (e.g., offices, banks, homes, hospitals, nursing homes, apartments, etc.) as needed.
- Maintains client file and assists with closing file upon case completion.
- Maintain time entry of required billable hours.
- Provides excellent internal and external client service on the telephone and in person according to LK policies.
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion in client matters.
- Acts as a team player with projects, overflow work and vacation coverage.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships firm wide.
- Assumes responsibility for resolving problems and issues that arise, bringing to the attention of the Attorney as needed
- Abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Respectable, friendly, and helpful.
- Produces high quality accurate work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates excellent client service.
- New York State Notary, preferred
- Knowledge of annuities, life insurance, investment products, and income tax.
- Strong aptitude for numbers - accounting background
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team and ability to work independently and on a proactive basis with minimal supervision.
- Ability to establish priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Proficient computer skills including Outlook, Word, Excel & ATO
- Flexible and adaptable
- Strong organization and time management skills
- NY State Driver's license required
- Must utilize personal vehicle for firm travel
- Must maintain automobile insurance with a minimum of $100,000 Combined
- Single Limit Liability Insurance for Bodily Injury and Property Damage
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years' Paralegal experience preferred.
- Medicaid or Elder Law paralegal experience preferred.
Salary: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
