- Maintain a deep understanding of DWT’s Litigation Practice Group, including services, expertise, clients, and competitors.
- Work with key lawyers in the Litigation Practice Group to support in the execution of business development and marketing plans, providing coaching to help them develop and refine their business development and marketing skills.
- Develop and implement sales enablement strategies and training programs to support lawyers in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
- Support lawyers in monitoring filed litigation and investigations, identifying relevant opportunities to the appropriate lawyers.
- Lead new business pursuits, including pitches, RFP responses, and capabilities statements and presentations.
- Assist in the production and maintenance of relevant credentials and related materials about the capabilities and experience, including updates to the website.
- In collaboration with the Marketing team and the Litigation Practice Manager, manage key practice group information, including experience, client profiles, market intelligence, contact lists, and activities.
- Collaborate with the Events team and the Litigation Practice Manager to support of client events, webinars, and other business development activities to enhance client engagement and showcase the firm's expertise. This includes collaborating to capture and calculate ROI and undertaking any pre- or post-event business development-related activities.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Practice Management teams to coordinate the production, distribution, and evaluation of client alerts, newsletters, and other DWT publications, including the creation, development, and maintenance of relevant mailing lists.
- Lead the submissions process for legal directories (i.e., Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500, and others). This includes coaching lawyers for directory interviews.
- Support identified Client Teams and clients identified as ripe for cross-selling initiatives.
- Serve as a firm-wide connector, facilitating internal knowledge sharing and cross-practice selling.
- Support the Business Development team with ad hoc tasks, as needed.
- College degree required; master's degree in marketing or business administration or similar field, or JD is a plus
- 6+ years as a business development professional in a professional services organization preferred; law firm experience or prior experience as a practicing lawyer is a plus
- A demonstrated ability to develop professional working relationships and create a consultative, advisory-type level of trust with lawyers is required
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop business development skills, both among staff and lawyers, is required
- A demonstrated understanding of the business of law, including finance, sales and marketing, staffing models and industry trends
- Demonstrated understanding of alternative fee arrangements in the service industry (understanding of law firm pricing models a plus) is required
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and be highly organized and accurate is required
- Ability to work in a professional and collegial manner with lawyers, paralegals, and staff
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously is required
- Excellent writing skills and excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading skills are required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing in a professional, courteous manner with clients, firm members, and other business contacts are required
- Demonstrated ability to provide direction and guidance in business plan development efforts – at the individual, practice group and office levels
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex request for proposal responses is required
- Experience negotiating sponsorship contracts is required
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Products required, i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel; CRM technology a plus
- Ability to travel occasionally within the United States is required
