POSITION SUMMARY

The Personal Injury Investigations Specialist is responsible for executing comprehensive investigative, field-based, and pre-litigation tasks on high-exposure cases. This role requires advanced critical thinking, strong field awareness, and the ability to conduct on-scene investigative work with minimal oversight. The position involves extensive travel, rapid response availability, coordination with attorneys, collaboration with experts, and handling sensitive information.

INVESTIGATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and execute all inspections, expert engagements, and investigative assignments for pre-litigation high-exposure cases.
  • Maintain availability to Senior Attorneys to conduct or support litigation-related investigative tasks.
  • Create and maintain the #Investigation thread to document all investigative efforts.
  • Conduct liability investigations, including “word vs. word” accident evaluations and scene review.
  • Hire and supervise Private Investigators for witness interviews and surveillance.
  • Collaborate with Lead Liability Pending staff to ensure proper handling of high-limit claims.
  • Monitor all incoming cases daily and self-task investigative needs.
  • Assist litigation teams with scheduling depositions, mediations, and client meetings.
  • Communicate with experts regarding findings and litigation relevance.

TASKS ASSIGNED BY SENIOR ATTORNEY

  • Conduct LP, VIN, and DL searches using Westlaw Motor Vehicle and approved data sources.
  • Request criminal, traffic, inspection, and lawsuit histories for all involved parties.
  • Obtain background reports via Westlaw PeopleMap and Company Investigator.
  • Pull FMCSA SAFER, inspection, violation, and crash data.
  • Perform website and social media investigations.
  • Confirm spoliation letters were sent to all appropriate parties.
  • Draft and send preservation letters.
  • Coordinate ACM/ECM downloads with experts.
  • Request and review driving records.
  • Submit FOIA/Open Records requests.
  • Search for and obtain video footage from businesses, intersections, and traffic cameras.
  • Identify and locate additional witnesses.
  • Verify traffic light sequencing and obtain supporting video.
  • Document lighting conditions at the accident location.
  • Take custody of plaintiff vehicles and gather photo documentation.
  • Conduct social media and mugshot searches.
  • Perform background checks using Public Data, Westlaw, and LexisNexis.
  • Gather plaintiff injury photos.
  • Search defendant prior police reports.
  • Conduct VIN history searches.
  • Complete background investigations on defendants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be available for extensive travel (75–90%).
  • Must be available to respond or deploy at any time.
  • Previous on-scene investigative experience preferred.
  • Law enforcement, military, or field investigative experience desirable.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must pass background checks and drug screening.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • High-volume travel, including overnight.
  • Unpredictable hours and rapid response assignments.
  • Outdoor and uncontrolled environments.
  • Exposure to accident scenes and hazardous conditions.
  • Physical activity such as standing, kneeling, or lifting.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Law Enforcement or Criminal Investigation training.
  • ICS/NIMS (FEMA).
  • Private Investigator license.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Commercial vehicle crash investigation training.
