Office of Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein
Litigation Paralegal


The office of Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time litigation paralegal with two or more years of experience to support attorneys in the Litigation and Labor & Employment sections in the Civil Division. The ideal candidate will be organized, self-driven, and possess the ability to prioritize multiple projects and maintain confidentiality.


Skills and Experience
Degree or certification in paralegal studies preferred. Two or more years of experience as a paralegal.


Knowledge of civil litigation concepts, practices and procedures. Knowledge of filing procedures and requirements of courts and agencies. Experience with Word Styles and eDiscovery a plus.


About the Civil Division
Located at 77 N. Front, the Civil Division is responsible to defend the city and its employees in contract disputes, claims for personal injury or property damage, constitutional violations, wrongful death, tax disputes, and claims requesting money damages.

Under direction, is responsible for assisting the attorneys in the City Attorney’s Office by performing more difficult and complex investigative and research work; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

Assists with the preparation of legal documents such as answers, motions, notices, affidavits, subpoenas and settlement documents for review, approval, and use by attorney. Files legal documents in federal, state, and municipal courts.


Assists with discovery requests and responses including compiling, reviewing and analyzing documents and electronically stored information to investigate or respond to discovery requests, subpoenas, or other matters.


Assists with depositions including preparing notices and subpoenas and arranging for court reporter. Prepares and organizes materials for depositions.
Assists with brief preparation including proofing and compilation of table of authorities, appendices, and addendums.


Assists with trial preparation including preparing exhibits, notebooks, checklists and witness files. Coordinates the schedules of witnesses and experts. Attends trials to assist with exhibits and serve as a liaison between clients, witnesses, experts, and the trial team.


Creates, organizes and maintains electronic case files.


May provide general office support to attorneys and other staff members.
