Position Title: Attorney – Civil Litigator
Position Summary: Hinkle’s Litigation team is unequaled in Wichita, and is one of a few top tier civil litigation practice groups in the region. Our practice is focused on representing prominent insurance companies focused on specialty line services, such as medical malpractice, commercial transportation and motor vehicles, products liability, food safety issues and other professional liability claims. We also routinely represent private companies or individuals in commercial litigation or other legal disputes. Our practice groups strives to be premier trial counsel throughout the Midwest on these types of cases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads a team of Of-Counsel and Associate Attorneys as well as Paralegals, Legal Secretaries and Administrative Assistants.
- Provides legal support and guidance and defends complex personal injury and commercial claims in all phases of litigation, including jury trials.
- Performs quality work on a timely basis and provides outstanding client service. Responsible for billing clients for services provided.
- Drafts formal pleadings/motions, correspondence, litigation reports/plans, litigation budgets, conducts depositions of parties, fact witnesses and expert witnesses.
- Conduct legal research as needed to support client matters and ensure the provision of up-to-date legal advice.
- Work collaboratively with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient and accurate administration processes.
- Advises and communicates regularly with clients regarding the status of their matter.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys to strategize complex cases, provide input on legal strategies, and contribute to the overall success of the firm.
- Participate in jury trial trials, including as second chair or first chair depending on complexity and individual experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- 5-7+ years of experience involving the defense of complex personal injury and/or commercial claims in all phases of litigation.
- Knowledge of law and legal practice in order to perform substantive legal function in client matters as normally acquired through completion of a Juris Doctorate Degree.
- Strong knowledge of legal and medical aspects of defending complex claims.
- Excellent drafting skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate well, both verbal and written, with a diverse group of clients, attorney’s and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
