Job Description

The In-House Paralegal provides essential, high-level legal and administrative support to the General Counsel and the Legal Department team, ensuring the hospital operates in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to effectively handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a high-volume environment, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Legal Support & Document Management


  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Assist the General Counsel in drafting, reviewing, revising, and managing a wide range of legal documents, including service agreements, vendor contracts, business associate agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and medical director agreements.

  • Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research on state and federal statutes, case law, and healthcare regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA, EMTALA, Stark Law, and the Anti-Kickback Statute. Summarize findings in clear, concise memoranda for the General Counsel.

  • Litigation and Claims Support: Assist with managing litigation matters, including coordinating with outside counsel, gathering and organizing documents for discovery, preparing subpoenas, and placing litigation holds on records.

  • Legal File Organization: Maintain and manage all physical and electronic legal files, corporate records, and litigation documentation to ensure accurate, accessible, and up-to-date archives.


Compliance & Regulatory


  • Regulatory Filings: Assist with the preparation and tracking of various regulatory filings, license applications, and periodic reports required by federal and state agencies.

  • Policy Review: Review and assist in the drafting or revision of internal hospital policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory changes.

  • Subpoena and Records: Process and coordinate responses to subpoenas, public information requests, and medical record requests, ensuring strict adherence to privacy laws.


Administrative & General Support


  • Board/Governance Support: Assist with corporate governance matters, including preparing and organizing materials for Board of Directors and committee meetings, and maintaining corporate minute books.

  • Communication: Serve as a professional liaison between the Legal Department and internal hospital departments (e.g., Risk Management, Compliance, HR, Finance) and external parties (e.g., outside counsel, government agencies).

  • Project Management: Proactively manage departmental projects, track deadlines, and follow up on outstanding legal matters as directed by the General Counsel.

  QualificationsRequired Experience and Education


  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Paralegal in a corporate legal department or law firm setting.

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or an Associate/Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

  • Multi-Project Management: Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and successfully manage a high-volume workload and multiple competing projects/deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • High proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and absolute discretion in handling highly confidential and sensitive legal and patient information.


Preferred Qualifications (A Plus)


  • Previous experience as a paralegal in a healthcare system, hospital, or a law firm with a dedicated healthcare practice.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Familiarity with contract management systems (CLM).

Salary
  • $65,000 - $80,000/year
