Summary
We’re seeking an Associate Attorney with a focus on residential real estate to support the Webfirst Mortgage team. This in-house role will concentrate on handling all legal matters related to real estate transactions, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and ensuring smooth and compliant loan transactions. The ideal candidate will have experience in Massachusetts real estate law, will have a strong customer service mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively with members, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct residential real estate closings for the Credit Union and its members from start to finish, including negotiation, drafting, and execution of contracts as needed.
- Prepare, review, and finalize loan documentation and closing disclosures
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Credit Union policies throughout the closing process
- Serve as a liaison with title companies, attorneys, and internal mortgage staff
- Maintain detailed and organized records of each transaction
- Provide legal support on mortgage lending-related issues, including title, lien position, and document interpretation
- Assist in drafting and reviewing legal agreements, correspondence, and compliance documents
- Answer legal and procedural questions related to closings from staff and external partners
- Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with members, offering exceptional service and guidance
- Local travel to various Credit Union or closing locations as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Promotes overall BSA compliance by adhering to all BSA and OFAC regulations specific to the job function and assisting the Credit Union’s BSA department as necessary with any departmental function specific items.
- Actively promotes the security and privacy of member and employee information through adherence to both information security and physical security policies, procedures, and governing regulations. Training will be completed at least annually for Information Security topics, BSA, and GLBA; annual BSA training will be position specific. Annual training will also include courses on any of the following regulations as they relate to the position described herein: SAFE ACT, Regulations B, C, D, E CC, DD, and Z as well as any training deemed necessary to promote adherence to applicable regulatory requirements.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Massachusetts (required)
- Knowledge of residential real estate transactions and closing procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and real estate or lending software
- Ability to manage multiple closings simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Ability to report to work as scheduled and maintain regular, reliable attendance
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
Education/Training Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in real estate law or residential closings preferred
- Prior experience in a credit union, bank, or title company is a plus
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role primarily takes place in a professional office environment and involves sedentary work, at a desk or teller station, using a computer, and engaging in phone or video conversations. The noise level is generally moderate. Employees may need to sit or stand for extended periods, move about the office, and occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry items up to 20 pounds. Some repetitive motion including movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Employees are required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as transcribing, viewing and using a computer, and reading documents, as well as the ability to communicate verbally with colleagues, supervisors, members, and visitors.
