JOB SUMMARY

The Associate General Counsel reports directly to the General Counsel of UVA Community Health (UVACH) and advises on a wide variety of legal and regulatory aspects of UVACH business matters, including, but not limited to, healthcare compliance, privacy, risk management, contracting, facilities development, administration and all other ongoing and new business interests.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides advice to management and executive leadership with respect to the legal implications involved in the ongoing operations of UVACH and its subsidiaries; 
  • Supports heatlhcare regulatory compliance and privacy programs for UVACH operations;
  • Provides legal advice on structuring of external relationships and various outreach activities and manages the necessary legal documentation for such activities;
  • Drafts, revises, and reviews for legal appropriateness corporate and departmental contracts and related policies;
  • Works with representatives from various departments on developing and modifying practices and procedures to conform to legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Confers with other legal counsel, both internally and externally, on a variety of legal matters impacting UVACH;
  • Maintains collaborative and cooperative relationships among UVACH, UVA Health and related entities; 
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations;
  • Completes other projects and tasks as assigned by UVACH General Counsel. 

 

Analysis: Analyzes processes and creates deliverables to provide information and recommendations for improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school required.

Experience: A minimum of 7 years of legal practice with healthcare experience required

Licensure: Member in good standing of the State Bar of the Supreme Court of Virginia, to include Corporate Counsel Certification, required.
