Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a temporary Recruiting in the Human Resources department, reporting to the Director of Talent Management.
 
The role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for the Firm’s full cycle recruitment process for all U.S. offices. The temporary Recruiter will be expected to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including firm personnel, contracted talent agencies and other organizations connected with the Firm’s recruiting efforts. 
 
Additionally, this position must be effective in creating positive recruiting experiences through the adherence to firm recruiting policies and effective strategy development. Above all, the Recruiter must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values, performing all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s lawyers and hiring managers, maintaining efficient and effective departmental operations, and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
 
Key responsibilities of this position include: 
  • Facilitate and implement all phases of the recruitment process for Business Services professionals.
  • Partner with hiring managers to identify recruiting strategies based on the requirements of the role and implement effective and efficient practices, aligned with firm and industry standards. Educate managers on the process and ensure quality interview and hiring practices 
  • Develop and oversee recruiting plans for open positions to attract and interview qualified candidates; place advertisements and coordinate other outreach; phone-screen candidates; conduct in-person interviews and/or coordinate interviews with local office contacts; and conduct reference checks.   
  • Coordinate job postings on the firm’s internal and external portals with Rival’s ATS. Source candidates through various channels including job boards, social media, and professional networks.
  • Conduct initial screenings and interviews to assess candidate qualifications and fit for the firm.
  • Support and serve as the first point of contact for candidates throughout the interview process, assist with their questions, and provide updates throughout the recruiting process. 
  • In consultation with the Director of Human Resources, the Compensation team and local office contacts, coordinate salary recommendations and assist local contacts with negotiating employment offers with potential new hires, when appropriate, and support the steps to initiate the new hire process.
  • Work with the talent management team to help develop innovative strategies that attract and identify top talent. Recommend strategies for candidate sourcing, effective interview and selection techniques, and recommend and oversee social media and professional networking sourcing for active and passive applicants.
  • Ensure the firm’s background check process is successfully completed prior to job offers being made.
  • Support the identification and negotiation process with permanent placement and temporary employment agencies and other referral organizations.
  • Help maintain and oversee the firm’s collection of position descriptions, including the update of existing descriptions, and ensure that the firm has a position description for each active staff position, with final approval by the Director of Human Resources.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws regulations and firm policies
  • Perform other administrative tasks or projects as needed.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recruiting experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services organization.
  • Unfailing commitment and adherence to equal employment opportunity principles, and fair and legal hiring practices.
  • Strong service orientation, and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, peers, office and firm management, and outside business partners.
  • Proven track record of successful candidate placements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, discretion and tact.
  • Solid understanding of the firm’s compensation and benefit packages and ability to communicate same to candidates.
  • Familiarity with HRIS, databases and reporting applications.  Experience with effectively using applicant tracking systems (ATS), ideally Rival.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities and adjust quickly and professionally to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Strong work ethic with the willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and common sense.

The hourly range for this position in Washington, DC is $46.00 to $51.00.
