About the Position

Reporting to the SVP, Chief Compliance Officer & Chief Counsel, the VP, Employment Counsel will support the Global Human Resources (“HR”) function in providing legal advice on all aspects of the employment relationship and compliance with employment laws and regulations.  The successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely with a diverse team across multiple jurisdictions to ensure consistency in approach and coordinate with outside counsel for subject matter expertise in the regions.  The position requires a deep understanding of both local and international employment laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with HR on employment-related legal matters, including but not limited to offers, performance management, separations, employee benefits, and global mobility matters.

  • Provide legal advice on employment issues, including drafting and review of employment-related documentation, compliance with local labor laws, employee benefits, immigration laws, and workplace policies.

  • Support HR on managing employee relations matters, investigations, and grievances.

  • In conjunction with HR, ensure that employee handbooks and related policies and procedures are maintained and updated.

  • Develop and deliver training programs on employment law topics, ensuring that key stakeholders are up to date on employment law developments.

  • Supervise outside counsel on employment-related matters.

  • Oversee employment-related litigation, with outside counsel.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Must have a law degree from an accredited, leading law school and be qualified to practice in the U.S, Ireland or the United Kingdom.

  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience as a practicing lawyer or in-house counsel specializing in employment law, preferably with a focus on international issues.

  • Must have significant experience in reviewing and drafting employment related agreements, policies and procedures.

  • Proven track record of making independent decisions regarding complex legal and corporate issues required.

  • Must have exemplary oral and written communication skills; possess strong negotiation skills; exercise independent judgment and be able to identify and escalate risks appropriately.

  • Excellent research, writing and analytical skills required.

  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse team-oriented, collaborative business environment, as well as independently.

  • Demonstrated high moral character and professional integrity

  • Must be a self-starter able to thrive in a high performance, demanding culture and interested in and able to assume new roles and responsibilities.

The fulltime base salary range for this position is $220,000 - $245,000 USD per year; base salary offered may vary based on job-related knowledge skills, and experience. The position is eligible for bonus and a comprehensive benefits package. This information is provided per the New York City Human Rights Law and applies to positions in New York City.
