Job Description
The United States Postal Service has the following excellent and challenging employment opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative individual. The U.S. Postal Service Headquarters Law Department is seeking an honors attorney to fill a vacancy in the Corporate and Postal Business Law group. This Section provides legal support to help advance the governmental and commercial interests of the Postal Service within the highly regulated and competitive mailing and shipping industry.
Duties This position serves as in-house counsel advising a wide variety of Postal Service Departments on matters including legal review of Postal Service advertisements and public communications, drafting and negotiating promotional, licensing and other revenue-generating agreements with private third parties and federal executive agencies, and assisting the Chief Financial Officer in conjunction with borrowing and other dealings with the United States Treasury. Corporate attorneys also support the establishment of prices for postal services, the introduction of innovative and improved services to the mailing public, and adjustment of standards of service to the public in response to changing market conditions. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts legal research and prepares written material for use in representing the Postal Service and advising postal management officials. Participates in conferences necessary to representing or advising Postal Service officials. Directly advises postal management officials or represents the Postal Service in legal matters involving outside parties or administrative litigation. Prepares replies to inquiries from Congress, government agencies, and the public. Prepares opinions, memoranda, decisions, regulations, testimonies, or formal filings in proceedings in which the Postal Service is a party. SUPERVISION: Manager of unit to which assigned. Salary- $90,430/year
