Description

The Gaston County Attorney’s Office seeks students interested in public service and local government operations to participate in our summer internship opportunity for law students.

The County’s Legal Department is committed to providing the County and its public officials and employees with legal services of the highest quality. Gaston County’s motto is "Local Strengths, Global Success" and this position is an excellent opportunity to grow and develop your legal skills and knowledge while making a significant contribution to this community.

The Gaston County Attorney’s Office will offer a summer internship opportunity for a law student who has completed their first year (or the equivalent for part-time students) at an American Bar Association-accredited law school. Applicants would be expected to work approximately 40 hours per week. The selected intern will earn $25.00 per hour. This is an in-person internship and may include attendance at some advisory board or commission meetings which occur in the evenings.

Examples of Duties

The Legal Internship will introduce the selected student to the practical experience of working in local government. The program will expose the intern to a variety of areas of law and practice such as planning, human resources, litigation, legislative drafting, ethics, code enforcement, community development, real estate, public records compliance, information technology, privacy compliance, construction, and contracts. The County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney are committed to providing guidance and feedback to truly form a learning and enriching experience for the selected candidate.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled at an American Bar Association-accredited law school; and have completed their first year of law school
  • Be available to work approximately 40 hours per week.

  2. A resume
  3. A current college transcript.
