Duties
Serves as second level management employee. Deals with complex & difficult legal matters. Works under administration direction, plans, directs, & coordinates the legal programs of the agency for the following.
Acts as legal counsel for provider compliance. Prepares difficult cases for trial.
Serves as legal liaison with other state departments, county boards of developmental disabilities, service providers, consumers & their representatives, & the public
Performs other legal duties, as needed, related to operation of the agency & agency's programs & responsibilities, including the following: Provides full range of legal advice & counsel to the agency's director, deputy directors, managers & professional staff. Researches & drafts legal opinions, orders, memoranda & other legal documents. Analyzes, reviews & drafts administrative rules & legislation. Provides training to staff.
Responds to legal inquiries from government officials & the public.
Researches & drafts contracts, grants, interagency agreements, leases, policies & procedures. Conducts negotiations on behalf of the agency.
Provides legal research, consultation and advice for Chapter 119 hearings.
Prepares difficult cases for trial, hearings & appeals. Acts as hearing officer &/or agency representative on matters concerning eligibility disputes & admission & discharge appeals
Performs other related duties as assigned (e.g. attends staff meetings & training sessions; maintains case records & files; travels as required).
Salary
- $43.09/hour
Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 18 mos. exp. as licensed attorney; 6 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques.

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Rule 5123-2-02, “Background Investigations for Employment,” outlines disqualifying offenses that will preclude an applicant from being employed by the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
