Job Summary: The Legal Information Services Librarian is a dynamic, service-oriented professional who supports CLP’s mission by growing legal information literacies in our community. As part of the Allegheny County Law Library, this Librarian leads the development and delivery of high-quality programs, services, and virtual content with a focus on legal information and research.
Reporting to the Library Services Manager-Allegheny County Law Library, the Librarian will be responsible for proactively responding to the robust legal information needs of Allegheny County Law Library members and community members. This role will be responsible for direct support to customers, cultivating a hub of legal high-quality, consistent, and accurate legal information, keeping colleagues informed about legal trends, topics, and tools, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure strong legal information support—both in person and virtually. This position connects users to authoritative resources and learning opportunities, empowering them to explore, discover, and solve legal information needs in a variety of ways.

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week, daytime evenings and weekdays
Hourly Rate: $24.00/hour

- Provide customers with responsive, high-quality legal information and research support in person, by phone, and virtually, in a high energy public service role;
- Assist customers of all backgrounds with legal reference inquiries, access to collections and eResource materials, and legal information goals;
- Design and deliver programs, 1:1 appointments, in-reach, and outreach virtually, hybrid, and in-person;
- Deliver excellent customer service in alignment with CLP’s Service Standards;
- Develop and exhibit cultural competencies to engage effectively with a diverse community, peers, and staff;
- Collaborate with colleagues across CLP and ACLA to support consistent, legal information services;
- Assist with day-to-day location operations, including mentoring, guiding, and supporting staff and volunteers;
- Represent CLP and Allegheny County Law Library at community events and through collaborations with partner organizations;
- Update, create, and collaborate on local County legal forms for community use;
- Share expertise in legal collections through in-person support and digital channels;
- Value, promote; and exhibit the depth of legal reference materials;
- Competently use and understand technology that supports legal services and legal information access and development for diverse user groups;
- Collaborate on the maintenance and development of legal reference collections;
- Lead, apply and administer collection management procedures and projects in alignment with CLP guidelines and Law Library collection practices;
- Promote legal information materials and resources through in-person interactions, displays, and digital channels;
- Provide legal reference and research assistance, connecting users to authoritative, research-based legal information sources;
- Engage in ongoing professional learning related specifically related legal information and;
- Travel locally for professional duties such as programs, outreach, and meetings.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited school is required;
- 1 to 2 years of public service experience in a public law library, academic law library, or law firm library is required;
- Two or more years in an information services, adult services, or related position;
- Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills;
- Demonstrated knowledge of law library collections and services in a public setting;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Allegheny County Courts and Pennsylvania State Courts;
- Commitment to demonstrating innovation, service design, and use of data in the development of library programs and services;
- Demonstrated proficiency with Lexis+, Westlaw, Gale Legal Forms and similar database products;
- Strong proficiency of M365, including apps;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Software as a Service (SaaS), including but not limited to: Video conferencing (Teams) and library-specific applications (Springshare LibApps);
- Ability to navigate and interpret CLP policies and procedures;
- Ability to work as part of a team, meet deadlines, manage assignments and responsibilities effectively in a busy urban location;
- Committed to serving and providing support to peer colleagues across CLP and Allegheny County libraries;
- Committed to providing high quality customer service to a diverse public and staff in accordance with CLP’s philosophy and guidelines in-person, over the phone, and virtually;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods, often for a full workday;
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs;
- Must be effective, professional and comfortable with public speaking and presenting (both in person and virtually); addressing a variety of audiences from community members, court employees, pro se litigants, and legal professionals; and
- Ability to travel locally within the region.
