
Settlement Housing Fund, Inc. (SHF) is a prominent nonprofit organization that creates and sustains high quality affordable housing and programs, building strong and economically diverse neighborhoods throughout New York City. Since 1969, SHF has worked closely with community partners to provide low- and moderate-income New Yorkers with pathways to long-term affordable housing, education, employment and wellness.
SHF's Staff Attorney will report directly to SHF's General Counsel on transactional legal work relating to the development of affordable housing and on corporate work related to the operation of a not-for-profit affordable housing developer.

Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney will be responsible for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, the following:
- Representing SHF as an affordable housing developer and provider of community programming.
- Representing SHF as a nominee Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) fee title owner for affordable housing projects.
- Preparing for and attending acquisition/loan closings for affordable housing projects.
- Negotiating with governmental agencies regarding affordable housing projects.
- Drafting and reviewing legal and loan documents relating to the development of affordable housing.
- Drafting construction, purchase and sale, and other contracts.
- Drafting community programming documents including partner agreements and government contracts.
- Support compliance efforts by responding to audits, governmental inquiries, and other information requests, and ensuring adherence to applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- The submission to the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development of HDFC formation packages for affordable housing projects.
- The submission of NYS Sales Tax Exemption Application packages for affordable housing projects.
- General legal/administrative work relating to the operation of a not-for-profit corporation and the development of affordable housing.
- Reviewing and revising SHF's corporate operational documents.
- Overseeing Sponsor Review for SHF with governmental agencies.
- Supervising outside law firms hired to perform legal work for SHF.
Qualifications:
- NYS Bar admission required.
- Minimum of 2 years legal experience required.
- Dedication to the development of affordable housing required.
- Excellent writing and organizational skills required.
- Real estate experience strongly desired.
- New York City affordable housing experience an advantage.
- Not-for-Profit experience an advantage.
